Sustainability

Sandman Hotel Group is dedicated to incorporating conservation and resource management into the execution of its daily operations. In support of this we have the following initiatives in place:
 

GREEN TEAM

Our green team, made up of representatives from across the company, meets several times a year to discuss, implement and review various green initiatives.

SUSTAINABLE PURCHASING

We source our cleaning products from P&G Professional. Their concentrated formulas mean fewer deliveries, which in turn lessens our carbon footprint. P&G Professional is also now purchasing 100% renewable electricity in the U.S., Canada, and Western Europe.

TOWEL/LINEN REUSE PROGRAM

In an effort to reduce water consumption and pollutants we do not refresh linens and towels daily unless requested. In addition, by partnering with P&G Professional, our on-premise laundry operations can reduce energy usage by 7% and reduce water usage by 40%. That’s the equivalent of 1 million water bottles per hotel, per year!

RECYCLING PROGRAM

We recycle or compost as much as possible in an effort to minimize the amount of waste generated through our daily operations.

ENERGY & WATER MANAGEMENT

We invest in equipment that helps to reduce consumption of these resources but also provide training to staff on how to manage the use of these resources responsibly.

COMMUNICATION

We communicate our initiatives to our guests, suppliers and employees in order to generate awareness but also to inspire participation. We invite you to support our environmental efforts by participating in our programs and also by providing us with your feedback. A list of our Green Key-certified properties may be found here.

THE 'GO GREEN' PROGRAM

We are ever conscious of the need to demonstrate a caring and sustainable attitude towards our environment. That’s why we’re proud to take part in the British Columbia Hotel Association’s ‘Go Green’ Program in partnership with Green Step Solutions and Rethink2gether.

Focuses include: 

  • Energy, waste, and water audits 
  • Carbon footprint measurement 
  • Investment in eco-certified products and service 
  • Management of food waste 

As part of the program, a $2 Eco Fee will be added to each guest’s folio at participating locations in support of the ‘Go Green’ program. 100% of your $2 goes directly into a Sandman Hotel Group fund to pursue initiatives and funding of innovative opportunities to implement real change for our hotels, the environment, and the communities that we serve. This nominal contribution joins the tens of thousands of dollars that Sandman is continually investing in being a greener accommodation provider.
