East Sooke Regional Park

East Sooke Regional Park lies southwest of Victoria and is about a 40 minute drive. It’s a beautiful coastal park that offers a variety of hiking trails for all ages. The park has over 50 km of trails, ranging from easy walks to challenging hikes. The park's most popular trail is the Coastal Trail, a 10 km hike that offers stunning views of the Juan de Fuca Strait and the Olympic Mountains of Washington State in the distance–remember to bring your camera! This trail can be challenging, with steep sections and rocky terrain, but the views are well worth the slog.

Goldstream Provincial Park

The diversity of flora and fauna within the area makes Goldstream Provincial Park a marvel of nature. It’s located just 16 km northwest of Victoria and is a popular spot for hiking and camping. Expect massive, 600-year-old Douglas fir trees and western red cedar, majestic waterfalls, and a meandering river that meets the sea! The park offers a number of trails, including the Goldstream River Trail, which follows it’s namesake, the Goldstream River, and offers beautiful views of the surrounding old-growth rainforest.

The Galloping Goose Trail

The Galloping Goose Trail runs from Victoria to Sooke and is named after a noisy gas rail-car which once carried passengers between Victoria and Sooke. It follows a former railway line, which moves through urban, rural and wilderness scenery on its 55-kilometre journey. The trail is divided into several sections, ranging from easy walks to challenging hikes, including paved sections perfect for accessibility. Cyclists and horseback riders are also welcome on the Galloping Goose Trail. Be sure to check out Todd Trestle–Its open, cross-braced framework curves high above Todd Creek and provides stunning views.

Juan de Fuca Marine Trail

This one is not for the faint-hearted! The Juan de Fuca Marine Trail is a 47 km multi-day trail that stretches along the west coast of Vancouver Island. It offers stunning vistas of the wild Pacific Ocean and the surrounding rugged coast, as well as the chance to view some of British Columbia’s most iconic wildlife. The trail is divided into several sections, ranging from easy walks to challenging hikes, with lots of on/off options. This makes it possible to enjoy just part of The Juan de Fuca Marine Trail as a beautiful day hike.

Mount Finlayson

Located in Goldstream Provincial Park, the Mount Finlayson loop is a challenging hike that offers stunning views of the city of Victoria and the surrounding area. Don’t be fooled by its short distance; this trail is steep with rocky sections and often slippery areas. It’s essential to be prepared for rough, uneven terrain and a thorough workout.
